TEMASEK GROUP OF COMPANIES SUPPORT CHINA'S BATTLE AGAINST SARS

       Beijing, 30 May 2003 - Temasek Holdings, together with 6 leading Singapore companies, presented ventilators and thermal imaging scanners in support of China's battle against the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars) today. The co-sponsors are Singapore Airlines, SembCorp Industries, PSA Corp, Keppel Corp, DBS Bank and CapitaLand.

2      Ms Ho Ching, Executive Director of Temasek Holdings, paid a courtesy call on China's Vice Premier and Health Minister Ms Wu Yi this morning at Zhongnanhai. After that, Ms Ho Ching presented a plaque to Mr Gao Qiang, China's Executive Vice Minister for Health, in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Health, to commemorate the expression of support. Representatives of the above Temasek-linked companies were also present to register their support.

3      The equipment comprised 20 ventilators for use in hospitals and two thermal imaging scanners for use by the Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC). The thermal imaging scanners were produced by Singapore Technologies Electronics, a Temasek-linked company.

4      In her letter to Vice Premier Wu Yi, Ms Ho Ching said, "We are encouraged that you are leading the battle against the spread of Sars in China. We wish to express our full confidence and support for your important mission."

5      Added Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Managing Director, Strategic Relations, who led the initiative to organize this Temasek group effort together with the companies concerned, "Many of our companies have had excellent experience and support for their investments and partnerships in China. Several expressed a wish to put together a small token of our support and best wishes to the people and government of China for their good health and continued success. We hope that the equipment will be useful to affected patients, as well as help maintain confidence in the safety of air travel and travelers."
